The table shows the values of the quadratic function f for several values of x. Which one of the following best represents f ?
(A)  f(x) = −2x^{2}
(B)  ...
(C)  ...
(D)  ...
(E)  ...
(F)  ...
The solution is

Couldn't choice B be correct also? If you use f(0)=3 and you use it in the equation f(x)=x^2+3 then 0^2+3 = 3

Kim, it is true that the function works for the value 0. However, it has to work for every x. If you plug in x=1, for example, you get (1)^2 + 3 = 4, not 1 as the f(x) value in the table. Hence, B cannot be correct.

The best way to solve this problem is to simply PLUG IN NUMBERS.
